UUP Young Unionsts set up in Coleraine

A new branch of the UUP's youth wing, Young Unionists East Londonderry, has been set up and is encouraging others to join them.

The first meeting of the branch was held last Friday evening in the UUP Advice Centre, at Railway Road, Coleraine.

The Young Unionists hopes to attract young people interested in political participation, debates and discussions.

“We aim to build confidence in our members and offer a platform to exercise their skills as future leaders,” said a spokesperson.

“Young Unionists are very optimistic and will always encourage new ideas from our members. During elections, members will also be invited to canvass for the UUP candidates and gain valuable experience talking to the public.

“Members will have the opportunity to take on responsibilities within the group from being part of our committee to organising and directing events.”

The local group hopes to have a big social element to it, with field trips around the Province, getting involved in community service and holding career advice and information sessions to allow members to advance their political careers.

“The main priority of Young Unionists is to create a group of like-minded friends. Social occasions will feature heavily in our agenda.”

This will include pubs and clubbing, barbecues, socials, cinema, bowling and even extreme sports.
