Valentine's night for Children in Crossfire

DARA O hArtghaile, a young man from Ballycastle , along with 10 other people of all ages will travel to Vietnam this April to raise funds for Children in Crossfire projects throughout the world.

Cycle Vietnam 2010 will take them through the mountains of Vietnam, meeting local people and at the same time raising funds for the worlds poorest communities.

In Dara's Final year at Cross & Passion College, Richard Moore Director of Children in Crossfire was the main speaker on Prize Giving day. His talk on world poverty, conflict resolution and human rights issues from around the world struck a chord with many of the young people there, some of them resolved to take some practical action and a range of fundraising challenges occurred.

Dara himself was moved by Richard Moores talk, and how the negative effects of the Irish Conflict had been turned by Richard into a positive outlook for the less fortunate of the whole world.

Children in Crossfires mission statement 'giving children the chance to choose' was witnessed first hand by Dara and his good friend James Mc laughlin whilst volunteering on another project in Uganda, children living on the street having escaped from War in northern Uganda, the effect of HIV Aids on a country in poverty.

A target of 3500 plus needs to be raised and this Valentine s Weekend Saturday 13th February, Dara, his friends and family are organising a Gala Dinner in the Marine Hotel and are appealing for those planning to treat a loved one to a nice meal and good music to choose to come to their fundraiser.

Dara explained: " We hope that people will see this Gala Night as an opportunity to have a good night out together with their friends and partners and provide some much needed funds for a children in Tanzania and Ethiopia. We have placed tickets for sale at Spar [Boyles],The Marine Country Club or by calling me on 028 207 69879."

From previous fund raising Dara has raised just over 1500 and on this matter he has said: "I am very surprised at how well my fundraising has went so far, I am very pleased with everyones support and hope that it continues. I would love to see as many people at this dinner as possible because with your help we can make a difference. Thanks for giving children the chance to choose."
