Valley pool closed following leak

THE main swimming pool at the Valley Leisure Centre is closed.

Problems came to light as the pool was due to re-open following essential maintenance work.

During this work the pool had been drained to allow for repairs and cleaning. The work also included new lockers being installed in the village changing area, and the shower cubicles improved to provide a more open plan area.

This week staff realised that the pool appeared to be leaking water.

The council is investigating the leak and has called in specialist consultants to advise on the repair work needed.

Centre staff have been contacting groups booked to use the pool, and parents or carers of children registered for swimming lessons to notify them of the closure.

Stephen Bartley, Operations Manager at the Valley commented: “I realise that this closure will be very inconvenient and disappointing for our customers and I apologise to customers for this.

“We are working with specialists to survey and assess the situation and hopefully will get the pool open as soon as we can.

“Unfortunately we cannot say when the pool will re-open, it will depend on the outcome of the survey, but we will keep customers informed via the website as soon as we have any further information.”

The small pool is still open and where possible, swimming lessons have been switched to it.
