Valley swimming pools to close for retiling work

At their monthly meeting last week, Newtownabbey councillors agreed that the pools should be closed to the public from December 10 until January 6.

Work will be carried out to renew tiling and insert waterproofing directly below the Aquaslide and along the perimeter spill channel around the two pools.

The work, which is expected to cost more than £40,000, should allow the Aquaslide to reopen in early 2013.

It’s understood that retiling and waterproofing of the remaining areas of the pool deck will be included in future refurbishment programmes likely to take place over the next three or four years.
