Van driver gets fined

A VAN driver delivering Chinese food did not have business insurance for his vehicle, Craigavon court heard last Thursday.

Joseph Patrick Cunningham (39), of Drumbeg North, Craigavon, was fined 75, with six points, for not having insurance on February 19 and 60 for not having a vehicle test certificate.

The court heard police stopped him at a vehicle checkpoint while driving a van on the Tullygally Road. There were a number of Chinese orders on the seat. The vehicle test certificate had expired.

It was later discovered that his insurance was for social and domestic use and did not cover business use.

A solicitor for the defendant said he had been driving for 19 years with no previous convictions. He was unaware he required business use insurance.

He was only a stand-in driver and did this infrequently, added the solicitor.
