VANDALISM CONCERNS

Another bus stop was damaged and a summer seat was also vandalised.

According to a local politician, it reflects a “worrying trend” of antisocial behaviour in the village of late.

Donaghcloney based DUP councillor Mark Baxter said: “I was contacted by a number of residents at the weekend concerning the damage done to not only the two bus stops in the village but also to a nearby summer seat.

“It appears a black tar like substance has been poured over the seating areas and I also noticed some broken bottles in the vicinity.

He continued: “There has been a worrying trend of late in the rise of antisocial behaviour in Donaghcloney especially at weekends. The bus stops not only provide shelter to school children but also a much needed seat for some elderly residents waiting on public transport.

“Yet again it is these people who will suffer due to the mindless actions of these idiots and it is ultimately the rate payer who will have to pick up the tab.

“This isn’t the first time lately I have been approached about this type of behaviour and I have already brought it to the attention of the local neighbourhood policing team.

“I will be requesting another meeting with them in the coming days regarding this and also will be contacting the relevant departments to have this mess cleaned up.”

Mr Baxter appealed to residents to be vigilant and if they see anything that triggers suspicion to contact police on 0845 600 8000 and ask to be put through to Lurgan PSNI Station.

He said: “I’m assured by police that any information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
