Vandals delay the opening of play park

VANDALS have delayed the opening of Dunluce play park in Portrush.

The facility was due to open last Monday.

However ‘significant damage’ was caused to the flooring area.

A Council spokesperson said: “Council contractors are now replacing part of the surface again, which is having a knock on effect to other work, ultimately causing a delay to the reopening. Council apologisesto the local community for the holdup and asks the public to report such acts of vandalism to their local Police Station.

“There has been a recent spate of damage to play areas throughout the Borough of Coleraine, particularly to those which are being newly developed and nearing completion.”

Condemning those responsible, Coleraine deputy mayor, councillor Mark Fielding, said: “This vandalism is regrettable and I would appeal to the public to report such acts to the local Police.

“This is a temporary set back; I have no doubt once the Dunluce Park is open it will provide Portrush with a much improved leisure facility.”
