Vandals target Randalstown church

The Randalstown community has been left outraged following a vandalism attack on a church on Thursday afternoon.

It is understood that a number of youths were seen entering the Old Congregational Church, breaking windows and causing damage to property.

A spokesperson for Randalstown Cultural Awareness Association condemned those responsible, and said a number of youths, who had a dog with them, were responsible for the vandalism.

“On Thursday afternoon a number of youths entered the premises of the OC Church, Randalstown and caused criminal damage,” Sammy Bell, RCAA, said.

He added: “They broke windows in the church and damaged property.

“We condemn those responsible and if any one has any information we ask them to report it to the police.”

Mr Bell said yesterday’s incident follows on from anti-social behaviour in the area in recent times.

He added that RCAA had facilitated a number of public meetings to address the issue.

Parents have to ask themselves do they know what their young people are at when out,” Mr Bell added.

South Antrim MLA Trevor Clarke added his condemndation and called for anyone with information to contact the PSNI.
