Vandals ’threw furniture thrown out of hotel’

BALLYCASTLE Sinn Féin Councillor, Cara McShane, has condemned two nights of vandalism at the Marine Hotel in the town during which she said “countless items of furniture” were thrown out of the building.

Cllr McShane, who is the Chair-Elect of the newly formed Policing and Community Safety Partnership, said: “These attacks are not just on a physical structure, but are attacks on every person in Ballycastle who tries hard to develop and promote the town as a positive place to live and to visit.

“It is a disastrous situation that the derelict Marine Hotel has been an eyesore for the past 18 months on the seafront and that has now been further exacerbated by the actions of callous criminals.

“Many people are preparing for the tourist season to begin, which is the life-blood for many within our community. With Easter just several days away, a boarded up and derelict hotel on the seafront is sending out a very negative signal. I have spoken to the administrators of the hotel, to convey the anger felt by everyone in the town.”
