Variety Is The Key To Spring Fashion

This spring, it is forecasted that there will not be huge changes in fashion trends, however there will be a change in how we spend our money. Gone are the days of frivolous spending and the thrill of impulse buying. Instead shoppers are getting wise and will be investing in a few statement pieces that will last through a number of seasons.

One of the most reliable and versatile items of clothing we own are jeans. We all own at least five pairs and they are the most popular and necessary item in our wardrobe. We can wear jeans anywhere, relaxing at home, meeting friends for lunch or on nights out. For 2011 the high waisted flare style is on trend, it is in fact the main style on offer. Key colours range from dark blue, dark grey and light grey. All variations of skinny jeans and boot cut jeans are also on trend. So no matter what your figure or preferred style in jeans, there are plenty of options that will suit your shape.

To compliment the flared and bell bottom style of jeans 70’s glamour is on trend. Daytime styles include high waisted wide-leg pants and jeans worn with neat bow blouses, especially ones with billowing sleeves. Silk and satin fabrics are great in this style. Polo neck jumpers for the chilly spring days or a tight fitting top with a necklace for the warmer spring days will compliment this look. For a night time look try shimmering fabrics and styles that either hug the body or drape over it. Again silk fabrics are the way to go. Accessorising this trend is easy. By day, a leather satchel, and by night, a small bag with a long strap. Big, statement leather belts over mini skirts or maxi dresses add impact. Thigh high boots, that are in your wardrobe anyway, will look great with a mini or for the more daring amongst you hot pants. Rings and necklaces with bold stones, neat piles of bangles and long pendant necklaces will look fabulous.

Lace has been popular all Autumn/Winter 2010 and the trend continues into spring 2011. There are many different types of lace and for spring its less about the stretch, all over lace and more abut antique style lace, fabrics that look like a more traditional lace. Go for a wider net and a more unique pattern to be really on trend. The way to wear lace this season is to be romantic but not over girly. Lace skirts and dresses will work this look but be sure to keep the hem a little longer, keeping that romantic girly tone and not an overtly sexual one.

The military style has been replaced or complimented by biker chic. The key elements to this trend are zipped sleeves and quilting on jackets.

Spring colours include “Honeysuckle” which looks like pink but ranges from pink and coral to a richer pinkish tomato red. “Beeswax” ranges from mango yellow to citron. Beige will no longer be considered boring as it is the key colour to Spring trend. Lavender purple will make an appearance as will the old reliable, black and white.

So, there you have it. It would appear that Spring 2011 trends are showing many contrasts. Long and short skirts and dresses, tailored and voluminous blouses and tops, flared legs and skinny jeans.

Variety, it would seem, is the spice of life and of spring 2011.
