Venues feature in Translink publication

A NUMBER of Londonderry venues feature in a new publication that aims to encourage educational and youth groups to use the train for trips to some of the leading tourist attractions in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (ROI).

Twenty-nine leading attractions in Northern Ireland and Dublin are featured including the Tower Museum, Derry tours, the Millennium Forum and Magilligan Field Centre.

'Educational Trips by Train' is filled with exciting ideas for day excursions and offers discounted travel for groups of 10 or more.

Louise Scott, Translink Brand Manager – Rail, says the train is a very convenient, fun and comfortable way to get out and about: "We know that many schools and groups already use our bus services for special trips away. However, many young people do not get the opportunity to travel by train which can really add something new and exciting to the overall journey.

"Onboard, passengers can relax and enjoy scenery from a completely new perspective. It also cuts out any concerns about parking or traffic congestion and promotes a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle – important values to instill from an early age.

"With this new publication, teachers and youth organisations can choose from a wide selection of educational and recreational trips that also include discounted train travel.

"To help teachers link their excursion to a particular subject of study, the brochure is divided into five sections including: Museums & Galleries, Historical Sites, Theatre & the Arts, Science and Leisure.

"There's also a useful summary of each attraction, contact details and handy maps so that groups can be sure the trip will fulfill their expectations," said Louise.
