Verbal Arts and Something Special gain from Legacy fund

The fund, set-up by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Derry City Council, has brought a total of 35 exciting arts and heritage projects to the city of Londonderry.

The final 12 projects supported through the initiative cover a range of high quality cultural offerings across, dance, visual arts, music and theatre genres.

They include Something Special’s ‘Creative Hub of Rhythmic and Legacy Enrichment (CHORALE),’ the Eglinton-based charity’s musical initiative offering huge opportunities for collaborative, inclusive learning and skills development through the arts.

The Verbal Arts Centre’s ‘Reading Rooms Goes Mobile’ project will also be funded.

This project aims to remove all barriers to participation encountered by hard-to-reach individuals, and the most vulnerable and marginalised in the community, according to those behind the initiative.

Oonagh McGillion, director of legacy said: “The quality of the applications in this second phase of the Legacy Fund was outstanding. It is testimony to creativity and passion of everyone involved in cultural activity in the city and district.”
