Verbal Arts to run Toy Story summer scheme

LISTEN up, all parents. If you want your kids to experience a summer scheme with a difference, then why not sign them up for the Verbal Arts Centre's Toy Story summer scheme?

Watch your kid's talent emerge throughout our week-long, action-packed scheme. See them come alive through the characters of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the gang. The summer scheme will be running from the 5th–9th July 2010, for 5–12 year olds, costing 35 per child. Family rates available. Local drama teacher Mary Duddy will be directing the kids in their very own on-stage production of Toy Story at the Verbal Arts Centre.

Mary is well known throughout Northern Ireland for her drama workshops and has produced and directed many celebrated shows. She will be keeping the kids entertained throughout the week, engaging them in drama workshops and helping to build their confidence through acting techniques, speech and drama skills, exploring stories and character building. She also will help develop those kids who prefer to take on the backstage roles, such as directing and stage-managing.

Local artist Trish Deery, who is currently producing her own illustrated children's book with Yes! Publications, will be helping the kids design and create the backdrops, scene props and costumes to help recreate the world of Toy Story. Trish is a former student of Salmouth University where she studied Art and Design.

Over the past number of years she has delivered numerous Art & Design workshops throughout the city, and she has promised to enhance the kids' ability by helping them develop their creative skills and techniques.

Throughout the week the kids will be fully engaged in drama workshops and art/design workshops.

On the last day of the summer scheme they will show off their newfound acting techniques & art skills when they deliver their own performance of Toy Story. Watch out Hollywood, Derry's emerging actors will be taking on the roles of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Slinky Dog and the rest of the Toy Story gang.
