‘Viable device’ made safe by ATO

A ‘viable’ explosive device discovered in the Arthur Road area near Longlands this morning (October 8) has been made safe by Army Technical Officers.

The device was discovered at around 10am, leading to the closure of Arthur Road and the evacuation of a number of homes in the area.

Police have confirmed that the “viable device” has been made safe and taken away for further examination.

Residents living in the area have been able to return to their homes.

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Newtownabbey Station on 101.
