Eco Clubs, supported by the Mid and East Antrim authority, focuses on projects such as fruit and vegetable growing, tree planting, gardening for wildlife and community clean up days.

The last Eco Club of the school term took place at Victoria Primary School, where pupils learnt about the mini beasts present in our gardens and carried out a bug and butterfly hunt.

Pupils found beetles, spiders and a Painted Lady butterfly which is a long-distance migrant.

The group have also been involved in the Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful ‘Adopt a Spot’ programme. This involves a group adopting a spot and pledging to keep it litter free by carrying out clean up days at least four times a year.

Victoria PS has adopted Carrickfergus Mill Ponds, while other schools involved include Oakfield PS who adopted Oakfield Glen.
