Victoria takes title in ‘hotly contested’ quiz

The school triumphed in a closely contested event, which was held in the Dobbs Room of the Town Hall.

Questions on general knowledge as well as road safety were set by Constable Davy Maguire of the PSNI, who also gave a short talk on road safety.

Congratulating all participants, Councillor Isobel Day, chair of Carrickfergus Road Safety Committee, said: “It was a hotly contested competition with only a few points between all six teams, but Sunnylands came third, Acorn second and the winners were Victoria.

“The first and second placed teams will go on to represent Carrickfergus in a Northern Ireland regional final, the time and venue of which have yet to be announced.

“Thanks are due to Davy Maguire, David Hilditch MLA, who supplied a plaque for every entrant, and to the Mayor and Mayoress, Charlie and Patricia Johnston, for their invaluable support throughout the whole organising process.”

Councillor Day also expressed appreciation to committee members, Councillors Terry Clements and Beryl McKnight and Evan Orr who assisted with the marking and organisation on the day.

She added: “Members of the committee are grateful to the schools which entered and would like to thank and congratulate all the pupils who participated.”
