Kenan Kilic said he was “sad” for his business and its customers as he gave the Mail a tour of the burgled premises just after CID had left.

He discovered his shop had become the latest target of thieves when he arrived to start work at 9am this morning [Wednesday, January 13].

The rock that was used to break the front window, and gain entry to the premises, could still be seen on the barber shop floor.

“It happened last night, they are talking maybe two males,” Mr Kilic told the Mail.

“They broke the till [but] I didn’t have too much money, a charity box [was taken] and I think have one TV missing.

“But I am unsure of what else is missing because I cannot go inside.”

Mr Kilic, who had to close up shop for the day said the attack has upset him and that he hopes police catch whoever did it.

But his shop is not the only to have been targeted recently.

Newsagent owner James Lawrence said he was left out of pocket after having to replace a window in his shop following a burglary before Christmas.

“They tried to break the window in the door first,” Mr Lawrence explained, “and then they put a brick through this window here. Then the alarm went off.

“They never come in but they took one of the charity boxes.

“The likes of this and the barber could be local,” he added.

Just a few doors down, the Vivo shop was also hit by burglars around the same time, but the owner was not available for comment.

Cigarettes were said to be what the thieves were after on that occasion, while it is understood that the Corner House Bar was also robbed in recent weeks.

Mid Ulster DUP MLA Ian McCrea has voiced his anger at the latest burglary and asked anyone with details to come forward.

“I am disgusted to once again hear of another burglary in Moneymore that took place in the early hours of Wednesday [January 13] were a window was smashed and the perpetrator/s gained entry through back door.

“It is not clear at this stage if anything was stolen, but this is the last thing a hard working business owner needs to find when they open up their premises for work.

“This is an unfortunate incident and regrettably it is not the first burglary in the Moneymore area of late and in light of this it is extremely important that people in the area exercise vigilance and take extra care to ensure that their property are fully secured.”
