In an effort to break the stigma surrounding mental health, the brave community worker has revealed she suffers from depression and that she has “no shame in telling it... if I can cope and manage my depression, so can you”.

“I want to close the gap between the physical and mental health, simply make people more aware of what depression and mental health illness does to people,” said Carol in a video promoting the Hub event.

So try swapping your usual brogues for a pair of dazzling stilettos or heels for something a lot more comfortable, and see what it’s like to walk that mile as someone else.

One in four people are said to suffer from mental health issues. On October 10, you can support them by joining the Hub’s event.

“I love the saying ‘don’t judge me til you walk a mile in my shoes’,” added Carol.

“So we are doing a mile walk around Cookstown and we’re inviting people to come along.”

She hopes the event will get people asking questions about mental health and how it impacts on people across the community.
