Video: Huge turnout for Royal Irish parade
Hundreds of Royal Irish Regiment veterans and guests from other regimental and service associations paraded in Ballymena today.
The parade was staged to mark the 50 years since St. Patrick’s Barracks, now closed, was established as the training headquarters for the Irish Regiments of the day - the Royal Ulster Rifles, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the Royal Irish Fusiliers. These three units were late combined to form the Royal Irish Rangers which, in turn was renamed as the Royal Irish Regiment.
After a morning parade through the town, the ex-servicemen enjoyed a family day at Ballee Playing Fields.
