Video: Minister is urged to preserve natural environment

THE new Environment Minister Mark H. Durkan was in Magherafelt today as part of a Mid-Ulster constituency visit.

He called with Eugene Kielt who runs Laurel Villa Guesthouse and the On Home Ground Poetry Festival, which is going ahead next week in tribute to the late Seamus Heaney who was due to give the opening address.

Eugene spoke to the Minister about the importance of preserving the natural environment and its influence on much of Heaney’s poetry.

He also asked the Minister to do more to protect townland names which are important in identifying places and locations of local interest.

Mr Durkan also visited Tullyhogue Fort, Cookstown and an area of waste ground and listed building at Ann Street, Dungannon.
