The £370,000 investment will mean that the Credit Union will have their very own premises come summer 2015.

The plans are to redevelop the Raglan bar site for the office for the credit union, after that the next stage of development is aiming to introduce business units at the site.

This means that new and existing members of the Union will have a focal point right in the heart of the Harryville community.

Slemish n tha Braid has grown over the past two decades and has well over 1000 active members and Chairman David Black said it was a very important day in their history.

Speaking at the official announcement on Wednesday in Ballymena Business Centre, Treasurer Billy Millar said: “We’re delighted to announce the launch of new premises in the former Raglan Bar site, Queens Street, Ballymena.

“We firmly believe in the re-development of less better off parts of Ballymena and we are officially announcing a £370k investment in the Harryville area.

“We would also hope that this new chapter will enable us to reach more people from all walks of life and welcome them as members into our already established community.”

Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Councillor Timothy Gaston said he was looking forward to what this will bring to the Harryville area.

Local MLA Robin Swann is also a member of the Credit Union and hailed the plans, he said: “I am very pleased to be associated with the hard work the Credit Union is doing for the people of the Harryville area.

“I am a member of this Credit Union and have been a member of the board and I applaud the initiative they have taken with these plans. I believe this is the start of good things to come for Harryville.”
