Video: Portuguese communities celebrate in the streets following Euro win

The shock 1-0 win over France in the European Championship final gave the country its first international title.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who watched the match from the touchline due to injury, said the victory was “for all of Portugal, for all immigrants, for all who believed in us.”

In Dungannon, the atmosphere was electric, with the street awash with colour as fans waved their Portugal flags and chanted their support. And, when the match reached its exciting conclusion, the were cheers all round.

In Cookstown the sound of horns greeted fans who were cheering, dancing and chanting in the centre of town as they marked their team’s victory.

As one Cookstown man said afterwards, online: “At least one local team won the Euros.”

Fabio Rodrigues, who lives in Dungannon, also posted on Facebook: “I am the proudest man alive to be Portuguese tonight. Dungannon square is green and red, as is all of Europe. We are Portugal kings of Europe!”

One local said he surprised there wasn’t a fan zone set up in either town.
