The protest, scheduled for 1pm on Saturday November 22 at the hospital, was organised at a public meeting called by the union and attended by hospital workers, politicians and the public on November 13.

The unit, which treats approximately 40 patients per day, is to be temporarily closed as part of a £7 million programme of Northern Trust cuts being rolled out over the next five months. Whiteabbey staff will be redeployed to support emergency and urgent care at Antrim Area Hospital.
