Video: Up for Business debate in Dungannon to focus on budget cuts

A six member panel will be discussing the post recession future with austerity measures being implemented and any greens shoots being suffocated with the public spending cuts facing the economy over the next twelve months.

‘The Big Debate’ will focus on the severe cuts Northern Ireland will face and the impact the public sector tightening will have on all local businesses with many asking: Are we going from the ‘recession frying pan’ into the ‘austerity fire’?

Panellists, Mark Conway; a strategic business planner, Stephen Mohan; a clothing retailer, Claire Murray; a food business owner and Chair of Dungannon Enterprise Centre, Niall Maneely; estate agent and property surveyor, Darragh Cullen; founder of Edge Innovate, a material handling and recycling equipment manufacturer, will be joined via video link by Professor David Gibson from Liverpool’s John Moore’s University.

The sextet will draw on a recent PWC economic assessment which stated that poor productivity remains the single biggest challenge to Northern Ireland’s sustained recovery with unemployment falling since 2014, the province’s jobless figures still remains the highest amongst the 12 UK regions.

For many local business owners and entrepreneurs words and phrases like austerity and block grant are not commonly used vocabulary but each word could have major consequences in the future.
