Video: Weather closes north coast beaches

The PSNI have tweeted that “Benone Beach, Magilligan, has been closed to the public as it is dangerous due to flooding caused by high winds, water surges and debris.”

Meanwhile the National Trust, which manages Portstweart Strand issued the following storm warning, “Please be aware that the large swell and winds are likely to push the tide higher than normal. We recommend not taking your vehicles on the beach at any point on Wednesday & Thursday. High Tides are as following, Wed - 08:43 & 21:08 and Thursday - 09:25 & 21:45.”

They have also stressed that in any emergency situation to dial 999 & ask for Coleraine Coastguard.

They finally stated, “Wherever you are on the coast today and Thursday, please stay well back. A picture and a view is not worth your life. Be Safe.”

Harry’s Shack (pictured), which is situated at the entrance to Portstewart Strand and owned by Harry’s in Bridgend, is also posting images on Facebook of how the swell and tidal surges are affecting their property. They too are closed today and gave the following warning “It is simply not safe to come near us, do not even attempt it. Stay away from Portstewart Strand please.”
