‘Vigilance’ warning after purse stolen in supermarket

A local woman has warned Carrick residents to stay “vigilant” when out shopping.

The woman, who did not want to be named, told the Times: “My mum, who is a pensioner, was in the Tesco store in the town and was distracted by a man while another reached into her bag and stole her purse.

“There was a considerable amount of cash as she was saving up her pension to buy a new car. Her cards were also taken and used within 20 minutes of the theft.

“My mum has been shaken up by this and has become very nervous and frightened when out and about.

“So please look after our vulnerable and everyone be vigilant, especially coming up to Christmas.”

Meanwhile, police confirmed that they received a report of the theft of a purse from a woman at a supermarket in the Minorca Place area on October 14.

“Officers are examining CCTV images as part of their investigation which is currently ongoing,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
