Vigilant villagers help police catch suspected burglars

RESIDENTS and business owners in Carnlough and Glenarm have been praised for helping police apprehend four people suspected of being involved in a burglary.

The incident took place on the evening of Sunday, April 28, when police responded to the report of a burglary at a shop in Carnlough. The thieves made off with money and cigarettes.

Officers investigating the incident were contacted by a number of business owners and locals, who provided details of two men and a woman who had been acting suspiciously in the area on the day of the burglary.

The information provided, as well as other leads, saw police conduct a search at a property in the Londonderry area.

Officers recovered property suspected to have been taken in the burglary and arrested and subsequently charged a woman with conspiracy to commit burglary and handling stolen goods. She is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Friday, May 24.

As investigations into the incident continued, Larne police arrested another three men in the Londonderry area on Friday. One of the men has been charged with burglary and two attempted burglaries and has been remanded to HMP Maghaberry.

A second man has been charged with handling stolen goods and was granted bail at court.

The third suspect was charged with handling stolen goods and will appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 22.

All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
