They held a very successful Health Fair in March and on Saturday undertook ‘Community Service with a difference’.

More than 23 villagers of all ages donned hi-vis vests and with gloves and pickers spent over four hours collecting a wide range of litter.

A spokesman said: “We were shocked by the amount we collected and as some of the youngsters queried ‘Are untidy people also unhealthy or unhealthy people untidy’.

“This was based on the cola cans, pizza and burger boxes, drink bottles both alcoholic and non alchoholic and of course cigarette butts, which we lifted along with duvet covers, an office chair and a couple of tyres and mud flaps. Over 50 bags of litter were collected by the Council.”

The Association will also be carrying out a survey over the next two weeks to get an update from the villagers on the Village Plans which were published in December 2013 and to bring the findings to the attention of the new Council.

The AGM and Survey Launch will be held in the Church of Ireland Hall, Magheralin at 8pm on Thursday, May 21.
