Village fair time in Ballynure

THIS year’s village fair in Ballynure, on Saturday, June 18, promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The organising committee, under the auspices of Ballynure and District Community Association, has made sure that the whole village will be full of attractions for people of all ages to do; in the field, along Main Street, in the churches, the Ballad Inn and the Orange hall.

As well as all the usual stalls, bowling competition, live music and hot food there will be a street walker from the Community Circus, magic and cartoon shows by Carnival Productions for the children, a drumming display, five-a-side football tournament and model aircraft display.

The highlight of the afternoon is likely to be the duck derby, sponsored by Ballygally Castle Hotel. The Cadbury’s Spots and Stripes team will be there from the start and will be encouraging everyone to take part to gain points for their team - this a national venture leading up to the Olympic games in London.

Ample car parking is provided in Jackson’s field and, new for this year, a free shuttle mini-bus will run from the Six Mile Leisure Centre to the village every half hour from 12 noon until 6pm.

The event, which is sponsored by Newtownabbey Borough Council and all the local businesses, begins with the opening parade at 12.30pm and closes with the annual tug of war at 7.30pm in the Rectory Field.

Detailed leaflets are available in the shops and the churches around Ballynure.
