Village Plan for Ballintoy

IN an exciting new initiative in Moyle over the next few months local residents will have the opportunity to put forward their views about how they’d like to see their village develop and improve in the next five years.

Community Places is working with Ballintoy & District Community Development Association to develop a Village Plan. The Plan will contain a collective vision of what people who live in the village would like to see, as well as a detailed action plan for achieving that vision.

Staff from Community Places have been meeting with representatives from local groups and others in the village to hear their views and help them come up with their own solutions to local problems. Everyone is invited to come along to give their views at the Village Plan Consultation Open Day which is being held on Monday 9 May 2011 from 3.30pm – 6.30pm at the Church of Ireland Parish Hall in Ballintoy. All those who attend the consultation event will be entered into a prize draw.

Louise Hodgson, Community Services Officer with Moyle District Council commented “This is an excellent opportunity for everyone in the village to make themselves heard, to say what they need locally and work with others to get things done. It will help these local communities influence statutory bodies to respond to local needs as well as opening up further funding opportunities.”

Community Places (formerly Community Technical Aid) is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation which provides advice on planning issues to disadvantaged communities and individuals and support to community planning, consultation, research and building projects.

Funding for the project comes from the NE Rural Development Programme Village Renewal Measure, which is being part funded under Axis 3&4 of the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 by the European Union and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Moyle District Council is contributing 25% of the cost of the project.
