Villages aim for 'Best Kept' awards

WARINGSTOWN, Bleary, Donaghcloney and Moira are all in the running for the 2010 SuperValu Best Kept Town and Village Awards.

The Best Kept Awards are organised annually by The Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) in partnership with independent retail group SuperValu - recognising towns, housing areas, healthcare facilities and schools for their work to improve and preserve the natural and built environment.

Donaghcloney and Bleary are contenders in the Best Kept Large Village category of the awards, while Waringstown and Moira are shortlisted in the Small Town category.

Doreen Muskett MBE, President of NIAC said: “The SuperValu Best Kept Awards recognise Northern Ireland’s most cared for places, where communities demonstrate an obvious pride in their shared surroundings. The awards provide us with an opportunity to reward communities that work together to protect and enhance the environment.

“On October 26 we will announce the winners of this year’s awards and we look forward to celebrating the success of our most beautiful, cleanest and greenest towns and villages.”

NIAC judges have been judging the Best Kept Towns, Villages and Housing Areas over the summer months, looking at a number of criteria including the absence of litter, fly-posting and graffiti.
