Violet Street clean-up hailed

He said: “Unfortunately over the past number of days we had people discarding their rubbish in the Lower Violet Street area in an unwarranted manner.

“The dumping of domestic rubbish in black bags – and even a settee – causes understandable concerns for those residents who put their waste correctly in their black bin for collection.”

Mr Reilly urged people to be more responsible.

He said services are available for those needing to dispose of large items.

“I would therefore urge everyone to dispose of their waste in the proper manner for the wellbeing of the entire area.

“Anyone with larger items for disposal can arrange for these to be collected by ringing the Council’s bulky goods service.

“I would also like to thank Council officers for ensuring that this unsightly mess was cleaned up at the first available opportunity.”

This paper has previously reported on the problem of fly-tipping in the area.

Residents of the nearby Bond’s Street area have regularly implored those responsible for fly-tipping in the area to think of the health of local people. Last year flytippers dumped dozens of bags of rubbish near a community play park in Bond’s Street showing scant regard for the health of children living in the area.
