Violet: ‘Thank you for your prayers’

The 44-year-old was struck in a three-bike smash as she stood in the garden of a friend’s house on Station Road, Portstewart.

Violet suffered a compound leg break and a hairline fracture to her skull when the bike hurtled into her as she stood with nine other people during the second lap of the opening Superstock race. She was airlifted to hospital in Belfast.

However, just four days later, a pictured posted on Facebook by Portrush Presbyterian Church shows Violet smiling from her hospital bed.

The picture was shared along with the message: “Time to give thanks to God for his kindness in answer to the many, many prayers.

“Violet McAfee wants to thank you for your prayers for her when she was injured at the race but we keep praying for a full recovery.

“She has some more treatment to come and remember Stephen Thompson as he too remains in the Royal Victoria Hospital.”
