Visitor’s night at Macosquin WI

President Georgina Henry welcomed a large attendance of members and visitors from the other Institutes in the Lower Bann Area to the May meeting of Macosquin WI held in the Richardson Hall.

She congratulated Anne Millen on winning the Jubilee Bowl for her photo entry entitled ‘Spring is here’ and the crafting ladies, Rose Watson, Eileen Richmond, Agnes Kennedy, Vera Kennedy, Georgina Henry and Anne McKane for achieving ribbons of merit, which were all presented at the Area Meeting held on April 25th.

The speaker for the evening was Mrs Jennifer Campbell who gave a moving and humorous account suitably accompanied by wonderful photographs of her son, Alan’s achievements through willpower and dedication from his decision to become an Olympic rower through Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 to his performance in that epic final at the London 2012 Olympics when he achieved his bronze medal.

Renee Black thanked Jennifer for sharing once again that story of dedication and achievement and that amazing final.

The competition for a six line verse entitled ‘Going for Gold’ was won by Daphne King with Agnes Kennedy second and Elma Irwin third

After a delicious buffet supper served by the tea hostesses, Renee Black and Jennifer Creelman tested members and visitors with a quiz - ‘All things Olympics’.

On behalf of the visitors, Anne Pollock from Exorna WI thanked Georgina for the invitations, Jennifer Campbell for entertaining everyone and the ladies for the delicious supper.

The evening concluded with A Countrywoman’s Song.
