Viva Coleraine - Spanish Summer Camp is thriving!

Despite only being in its second year the camp, which is organised by Coleraine men Ian Gilchrist and Matthew Cochrane, is proving very popular with the kids from Spain.

“This is the second year that Matthew and I have been running the camp,” explained Ian. “After the success of last year, we have eight kids from different parts of Spain this year and are looking to expand in the future.

“We wanted to build on the success of last year but it was difficult as neither of us were in Spain to do the publicity but word spread and we are pleased with the numbers this year.

“The children are hosted by local families and attend class at our old school, Coleraine Inst, five days a week.

“After class each day they take part in different activities. The activities range from: visits to the Giants Causeway, Belfast, Derry and Dublin to bowling, coasteering, surf lessons, beach bbq’s and the girls also took part in the Milk Cup parade.

“The children are aged from 13- 17 years old and come from Vitoria, Caceres and Valladolid in Spain.

“The main aims of the camp are to improve the children’s English, improve their personal development and create a link between Coleraine and Spain, where we called home for the past six years.

“The kids are having a ball of a time and don’t want to leave Coleraine for sunny Spain so we must be doing something right!”
