Volunteer at Tesco Coleraine for refugees collection

The Red Cross in Northern Ireland is hoping that high levels of awareness about the current refugee crisis will encourage volunteers to come forward for a Northern Ireland wide collection at Tesco stores, including Coleraine, this coming weekend – Saturday and Sunday, September 19-20.

Red Cross volunteers across Europe are working around the clock to support hundreds of thousands of refugees as they attempt to reach safety – from Turkey to Hungary to Greece to the UK, the Red Cross is striving to support people who flee war and persecution.

The charity’s local fundraising manager, Laura Shuttleworth said: “We are in the midst of one of the biggest humanitarian disasters of our time.

“Millions of people are being forced to risk their lives in a desperate search for safety as conflicts rage around the world.

“Many people have contacted our offices wanting to know how they can help. By giving two hours of your time this weekend, you’d be helping in a very practical way, and also enabling other members of the public to give what they can.”

Anyone wishing to offer two hours of their time at their local Tesco store this weekend can get in touch with Laura by contacting the Red Cross office in Belfast on 028 9073 5350.
