Volunteer cyclists needed for new tandem group

LISBURN in Focus is in need of volunteer cyclists to assist with a new tandem group.

Lisburn in Focus is a BIG Lottery supported Project which is aiming to make Lisburn City Council an inclusive and welcoming place for blind and partially sighted people. Following on from a very successful Tandem only sportive, a number of local blind and partially sighted people are keen to set up their own regular Tandem cycling club.

Would you be prepared to volunteer with Lisburn in Focus to help out with the group once or twice a month?

When cycling a tandem bicycle the team are referred to as the pilot, who guides the way, and the stoker, who provides the pedal power on the back.

Tandem cycling is a wonderful opportunity for blind and partially sighted people to try riding a bike - often for the first time.

Joanna Jones, a member of the Tandem project said: “I’ve been out cycling on the back of a tandem bicycle for the first time this year. It’s great to feel the wind on your face and the speed of the bike.”

It is also a great chance for local cycling enthusiasts to try their hand at volunteering for a good cause, while keeping fit and learning a new skill too.

If you have a few hours to spare and would like to register as a volunteer with Lisburn in Focus then please ring us on 028 9260 0388 or email [email protected]
