Volunteers lifeblood of Lisburn Tandem Group

THE Lisburn Tandem Group has enjoyed a great season of weekly cycling since April, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteer pilots.

The group members have been meeting every Thursday night for an hour of cycling and craic. Members also recently enjoyed a day of cycling and walking at Castlewellan Lake with other Tandem cyclists from Lurgan.

Although the Thursday night session finished at the beginning of September because the nights are closing in members of the group are continuing to meet on the first and third Saturdays in October and November at 2pm. James Judge, a keen stoker spoke on behalf of the group; “I started cycling again about 15 months ago thanks to Lisburn in Focus. I haven’t missed a night over the summer and am looking forward to the Saturday sessions. We always need new cyclists who are willing to pilot the bikes - so if you or anyone you know would like to register as a volunteer please get in touch with Richard or Claire on 028 9260 0388.”

The tandem group is supported by Lisburn in Focus, a BIG Lottery project lead by The Royal National Institute of Blind People Northern Ireland (RNIB NI) that operates in the Lisburn Council area.
