Two volunteers from the well established fundraising group were in attendance every two hours at the store from 10am until 4pm both days, and thanks to the generosity of local Tesco shoppers, a fantastic total of £1,216 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The money will go towards helping the 20,000 or so people in Northern Ireland who are currently living with the disease, providing support for them and their carers.

Bryan Clay, Down/Lisburn Alzheimer’s volunteer commented: “We are always happy to be given the opportunity to collect at Tesco’s Lisburn store, as the shoppers are so friendly and generous to our charity. Not only do we raise badly needed funds, but we also offer advice and guidance when we are approached by a carer or concerned relative of someone who is showing signs of dementia.”

Anne Broome, Community Champion at Tesco’s Bentrim Road store added: “We are keen to support a number of local charities, and the Alzheimer’s Society, through the Down/Lisburn Volunteer Group, have been one of our more regular visitors to the store. We are pleased that they raise good amounts for their cause.”

The Down/Lisburn Group is looking for new volunteers to help with fundraising, befriending, activity groups etc, so if you have time to help, please contact Laura Summerbelle on 07484 090891 to find out more.
