Vote for the Dark Hedges as the N.I. Tree of the Year

An enchanting avenue of beech trees of Game of Thrones fame, it joins the lime that offered shade to Tony Blair, David Trimble and John Hume when they met to broker peace in Northern Ireland in 1998. These are just some of the six trees shortlisted in the search for Northern Ireland’s Tree of the Year.

The charity is urging the public to vote for their favourite tree from the final shortlist. The winner will go on to represent Northern Ireland against competitors in England, Scotland, Wales and elsewhere in Europe – in the European Tree of the Year competition, in early 2016.

Northern Ireland’s six specimens are:The Peace Tree, west Belfast; The Dark Hedges, Stranocum; The Mulberry Tree: Bangor; Tree of Witness: Enagh Lough, Derry/Londonderry; Moneypenny’s Yew: Newry Canal, Tree of Peace and Unity: Dunadry Hotel.
