Among the contenders is the Tree of Witness, an oak tree at Enagh House just outside the city.

The shortlist includes: The Dark Hedges avenue of beech trees at Bregagh Road, Ballymoney (Game of Thrones); The Peace Tree: oak at Woodvale Park, west Belfast, which offered shade to Tony Blair, David Trimble and John Hume when they met to broker peace in 1998, as well as The Mulberry Tree at Castle Park, Bangor, Moneypenny’s Yew at Moneypenny’s Lock, Newry Canal, and the Tree of Peace and Unity, a lime at Dunadry Hotel, Antrim.
