Martin Markusek, Limewood, Banbridge, admitted being in charge of a car with excess alcohol on his breath on May 7 this year.

He was fined £300, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given ten penalty points.

The court heard that at 2.20am police saw the defendant sitting in a car parked at Gowandale Drive, Banbridge. The keys were in the ignition but the engine was not running.

He failed the preliminary test. An evidential test gave a reading of 42, seven over the limit.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had been visiting his girlfriend and there had been an argument in the house.

He explained that Markusek got into the car and drove around the corner. He was drinking in the car with the intention of walking back to his girlfriend’s house.

The solicitor added that the defendant needed his licence for his work.
