Waiting prohibition measures at Carrick's Victoria Road

The Department of Infrastructure proposes prohibiting vehicles waiting Monday to Friday between August 31 and June 30 on a length of Victoria Road at Ulidia College from 8.30am to 9.15am and 1.30pm to 3.15pm.

Following publication of a public notice outlining the department’s proposal, DUP Councillor Billy Ashe said: “I have talked to DfI over along period of time and believe that something has to be done to alleviate the problems local people face trying to access and egress their homes at school times.

“I have also expressed concerns for the school children’s safety as parents try to drop off as close to the school as possible. I personally witnessed a young person get out of a car on the roundabout and walk across the road towards school.

“It is important to remember that most parents leaving their children to school act responsibly and for this we have to be grateful and we need to encourage everyone to think not only of their child but others as well,”

“I have also asked for DfI to consider something to slow traffic approaching the roundabout at all times to prevent future problems. Finally I would remind people when driving to practice care, courtesy and consideration for others.”

Earlier this year, East Antrim UUP MLA John Stewart expressed disappointment at delays to the measures and warned residents of Victoria Rise were “effectively prisoners in their own homes twice a day”.
