Waiting restriction worries are eased at the Straid road

COUNCILLORS’ concerns over the effect proposed waiting restrictions at Straid Road, Ahoghill, could have on church goers, particularly, those attending funerals, have been allayed by Roads Service.

Council had written with their reservations to Roads Service and asked that leniency be shown by traffic attendants during times of funerals.

A letter of response presented to a Council committee meeting last Thursday night stated: “Roads Service can confirm that having consulted with the traffic enforcement team (NSL) that, although it is an unwritten policy, traffic attendants will show leniency for those attending funerals as long as they have prior notice of the event.”

The correspondence from Alex Wallace of Traffic Management also reaffirmed that anyone who has a blue badge can use their concession that permits a vehicle to park on the restrictions for a period of up to three hours.

“This would have the benefit of allowing those who are less mobile to park close to the church entrance on the proposed restrictions without receive a penalty notice,” he said.

Ahoghill Councillor Roy Gillespie informed the committee that a meeting had taken place between residents and Roads Service which confirmed that locals were now happy with the situation.
