Waiting restrictions needed

Speaking at the recent meeting of Banbridge District Council’s Public Services Liaison Committee, Councillor Joan Baird asked if there will be further proposals to provide waiting restrictions from the Gospel Lane junction to the Kenlis Place junction as she has received many complaints about vehicles being parked on both sides of the road and over the footpath.

This followed a letter from DRD being circulated to members in response to the Council’s letter in relation to proposed waiting restrictions at Gospel Lane and Downshire Place.

Councillors were informed that waiting restrictions could only be provided following a legislative process.

Councillor Ian Burns said that residents and pedestrians along Kenlis Street were also experiencing great difficulty due to the number of motorists who parked their vehicles on the footpath during working hours.

He said many pedestrians were having to walk along the road due to the obstruction caused by the vehicles on a daily basis.

Mrs Baird also explained that a layby had been provided at Park View for use by senior citizens so they did not have to park their vehicles on the road side. However she said that they were experiencing great difficulty when trying to find a parking space as other non-residential drivers were availing of the free car parking facility.

It was unanimously agreed that a letter be forwarded to DRD to question if there would be further proposals to provide waiting restrictions along Rathfriland Street, from the Gospel Lane junction to the Kenlis Place junction.
