Waiting times to be imposed on streets

Changes could be on the cards for Gospel Lane in Banbridge after plans for alterations were revealed by the Roads Service.

In a letter to Banbridge District Council, Roads Service said it intended to make part of the road one way between Bridge Street and the Bridge Street car park. The Roads Service has also proposed placing waiting restrictions on Gospel Lane in an attempt to improve the free flow of traffic once the new link road becomes operational. The Department also propose putting waiting restrictions on Downshire Place, which would introduce a short length of limited waiting, which would provide a turnover of spaces.

Councillor Joan Baird suggested that a letter be forwarded to the Roads Service seeking assurances that the proposed waiting restrictions at Gospel Lane and Downshire Place, Banbridge, would be adequately advertised within the press to ensure that members of the public were made fully aware of the changes.

Councillor Glenn Barr also asked that clarification be sought from Mr Beasley on who lobbied the Department for the proposed waiting restrictions or how such proposals came forward.
