Aboard the decks of pirate ship, The Mermaid’s Fancy, a perilous tale unfolds. Captain Scarlett Muff and Dick von Dyke find themselves on a breathless quest to save one of their kin. Dragging along the boat’s cabin boy, Jim Lad, and a parrot that doesn’t know when to shut it, these savage sailors will leave no eye dry when they tell their own story in the search for Joan Jett Black and her villainous father. The ship’s crew spins a story of kidnap and cruelty, of honour and valour, which leaves us ultimately wondering if love can truly conquer all?

TheatreofplucK is Northern Ireland’s first publicly funded LGBTQ+ theatre company with an aim to produce quality entertainment for all audiences and is supported by National Lottery funding through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Gilly Campbell, Arts Development Officer for Drama and Dance, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, comments: “The Pirates of Portrush is the outcome of a successful, creative collaboration between TheatreofplucK and Hilary McCollum funded through the Arts Council’s Artist Career Enhancement Scheme, an award bestowed upon Northern Ireland’s most talented emerging artists to allow them to develop their professional artistic careers. This hilarious play, presented by a fantastic creative team, is not to be missed.”
