Golf professional Colin Farr joined Richard Howe on Friday for a 20-mile charity walk, generating over £1400 in sponsorship.

Explaining his motivation for putting his best foot forward, Colin told the Times: “At the moment there is one defibrillator in Whitehead at the community centre and there are various people who are trained to use it. However, about 10 weeks ago a man collapsed on the golf course; thankfully he survived, but got me thinking about what would happen in the same situation if we couldn’t get to the community centre in time.

“If there was at least one other machine available that everyone knew about, then at least it would give someone a chance.”

The two men competed the fundraising feat in less than five hours on Friday evening, covering a route from Whitehead to Greenisland and back.

Colin added: “We should be able to get two defibrillators with the amount we raised, which is great. That way, one can be placed at the golf shop and one at the club, so at least there would always be one available. I’d like to think that they’ll be in place by Captain’s Day at the club on June 21.”
