Colin Richard Strain (49), Donard Gardens, Lurgan, admitted the theft of the steaks, valued at £9.32, on August 19 last year. He was also ordered to make compensation of £9.32.

Police were called to the Lurgan store and the meat was not fit for re-sale.

Strain said he did not intentionally take the steaks but was confused due to drinking alcohol with his medication. He claimed he put them in the wrong bag. He had enough money with him at the time to pay for them and offered to pay.

Defence said he did have difficulties with alcohol.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he was not suitable for community service or probation.
