Wallace teacher ‘thrilled’ to be chosen

WALLACE High teacher Victoria Walsh was nominated to be an Olympic torchbearer because of her generosity of spirit and commitment to helping others.

An English teacher at the Lisburn school, she didn’t know she had been nominated for the honour until she received an email asking her if she would accept the role.

“About a year and a half ago I started running as a fitness drive and lost three and a half stone,” she explained. “I decided to use the running to raise money for good causes.

“I took part in the Lisburn 10K and the Bangor 10K for CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young and I am running this Saturday in Larne for World Vision.”

Victoria will be carrying the torch in Bushmills on June 3 and eagerly anticipating the experience. “I was so thrilled and delighted when I found out about it.

“It is such a privilege and an honour,” she added.
